THE FIRST STEP OF AN AMBITIOUS PROCESS OF URBAN REGENERATION

Recovery of the Former Courthouse Palace

Carlana Mezzalira Pentimalli

The intervention of Carlana Mezzalira Pentimalli studio represents the “first movement” of a wide redevelopment project aimed at the introduction of the new Civic Library in the buildings located adjacent to the South façade of the Dome of Bressanone. The three Trevigian architects’ project, selected in the 2010 international competition, consists of four phases: the restoration of the historical palace of the former courthouse, the refurbishment of the building used for the offices of the Financial Police, the arrangement of a public area as a “literary park” and the construction of a building body called Kulturbaum, that is “tree of culture”, which serves to interconnect the three pre-existing elements. The incipit of the redevelopment process deals with a high-value historical building, built in the 13th century and employed for a long time as a bishop’s residence, before being destined for administrative functions and city courthouse over the 19th and 20th centuries.
