A LUMINOUS SPHERE AND A LAWN TO CREATE A COLLECTIVE URBAN CONSCIOUSNESS

Tierra and Cesped Installations in Madrid, Spain

SPY

In “Tierra” performance, SpY created an artistic project made up of a huge luminous red sphere caged inside a cube-shaped structure, constructed with the type of scaffolding normally used on building sites. These 2 simple geometric elements (sphere and cube) formed a large-scale construction which stands almost 25 metres high and has been installed in Plaza de Colón in Madrid. SpY asks us to reflect on the way in which our home, the earth, makes up a whole of which we form part and in which everything is connected. In the project called Cesped the idea is as simple as recognizable: transform the center of Madrid’s main square, Plaza Mayor, in a turf, a circular lawn with a diameter of 70 meters designed to commemorate the 4th centenary of the city. A perfect circle of green grass that, for four days, changed the context of the square, modifying its use and architecture.
